Second time around

The holidays are not over yet so I'm not THAT late with posting a somewhat festive outfit. I haven't posted in a while due to me starting my new job at ZARA clothing store and getting adjusted to my new job and all that it entails. But, what kind of blogger would I be if I didn't have a couple of holiday outfit posts?!?!

My flannel of choice for this post is actually a repeat from my "Totally 90's" post. Me and this flannel go way back, LoL! It's the most comfortable thing I own in my closet so it's definitely something you'll catch me in a lot. The leather high waisted pencil skirt is another repeat from my "Risky Business" post. This skirt is what I like to call my, "up grader". You could be wearing something that is  completely basic with little to no flare, but throw this skirt in the mix and you've got the look of "winner "written all over you. My suede open toe heels are another repeat from my "Risky Business" post as well. They're unbelievably comfortable and add a touch of sex appeal to this outfit. And finally, I added the gold chain leaf design necklace to the outfit to add that extra touch of POW! Accessories have so much power to complete any outfit and make a statement. This necklace is another repeat from one of my previous posts, "Not that innocent".

Today's post is about repeating previously worn pieces from your closet and mixing and matching them to appear new and fresh again. You don't have to feel compelled to wear or buy new clothes all of the time. You just have to get creative and mix pieces in your wardrobe around.

Until next time,

Morning Break

For some reason on Fridays I find myself being more fun and carefree . I'm not as stressed about deadlines for updates or any other work woes. I tend to take more coffee breaks on Fridays too... Shhh... don't tell my boss! I guess it's because I'm already in my weekend mindset. That relaxed/carefree state of mind that you will forever remember from your childhood. When you'd get out from school on Fridays knowing you wouldn't have to see that place for two whole days, stay up late to watch TGIF programs (I'm a late 80's child, so only my generation could relate to this particular example), eat as much junk food as possible and then pass out! Then on Saturdays you'd watch your Saturday morning cartoons (again, only my late 80's generation could relate) and then go out and play all day. And then on Sundays you would try to get in as many naps as possible to prep for the week approaching.
You should know I still pretty much live my Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the exact same way as I did when I was a kid. Only now, my Saturday morning cartoons are more in the practice of teaching my daughter her ABC's, shapes and colors.

I hope that everyone enjoys their weekend!

Old Hollywood Glamour

Nothing like a leopard print fur coat and a couple of fabulous accessories to make you look and feel like "Old Hollywood Glamour". Anyone who knows me knows that my leopard print fur coat is my absolute favorite piece in my closet. Like I said in my last post "A touch of gold", I must have been from New Jersey in my former life. There have been days where I'm not feeling too good about myself, so I throw this little number on and like magic I feel like new money! I added the turban along with my gold dangled earrings because you know you have those days where you think," Well, if I'm going to be fabulous, I might as well go ALL THE WAY". Or is that just me?
I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your Tuesday. I'll see you again tomorrow when I talk about it being perfectly fine to get completely glammed up without having to go anywhere.

See you soon,
Xoxo

A touch of gold

I'm a believer in ANYTHING GOLD, let me just put that out there right now, LOL!  My mom always tells me when I was younger I was just a gold, sequins, glittery mess. What can I say, I must have been from Jersey in my former life. But, as I've gotten older I've toned down my "Gotti" ways. I like to add little touches of golds or sequins here and there. For intense: my shoes have pops of gold all around them and my jacket and purse's zippers are gold as well. Now, I know my romper has a tribal pattern to it, but I was able to add touches of gold because my thick black stockings broke up the pattern. Maybe to some this is busy and they wouldn't try this, but fashion is meant to be played with and not to be taken so serious. Don't get me wrong, there are days when I want to look "Basic Chic" and be simple. Today wasn't that kind of day, though. It's Monday, let's have some fun out there!!!

Until next time,

Working Girl

The hustle and bustle  life of a Visual Merchandiser is what I LIVE for! I get excited to receive new shipment and help bring new concepts to life. Playing with fabric textures and color story pallets are also cool things I get to do. But, when you have long days ahead of you like I do, more than one cup of coffee to stay upbeat is helpful and so is a nice thick read from a good magazine.

My outfit choice for today is a bit more "adult" than I usually go for, but I like to be unpredictable with my choices of wardrobe from time to time. The pin striped woven I'm wearing is functional for my constantly moving arms, and my  high waisted denim jeans are SO comfortable it's ridiculous. Also, my wrists are a little colorful because I didn't want to look completely boring with the monotoned colors from my choice of shirt and pant. Now the heels...? Those will be coming off after a good 3 hours of running around the store. But I'll change them out to my black and gold ankle booties.
Gotta run!!

Into the wild

This heat wave in Southern California has been quite temperamental, or is that just me with my fashion choices? One day I'm trotting about town in pastels, next I'm playing with vintage lace pieces and now I couldn't help myself but to play with a more wild side for this post. Over the weekend I was thinking about the wild side we all have in ourselves. Not the "go out and get trashed" wild side, but the inner animal in us all. I believe when the weather gets like this we all experience a call from within. For some, maybe your call is to go running and breath in the natural aroma of natures fragrented plants. Others maybe called to center with themselves once again, because we all know the heat tends to make some of us step out of character.

The western print from my chiffon draped buttoned throw paired with my lace nightgown go together nicely on hot days like this. And my accessories compliment the wild vibe. I added my gold panther broach to this look because I love the way the gold POPS off from the dark colors from my outfit, and because I thought the Panther was my spirit animal. I also kept my wrists free from excessive jewelry because #1, it's hot and #2, I don't think you need all of that arm candy in the woods. So I just left it to my two favorite woven bracelets to be my staple accessories. My red clutch is a vintage thrift store find. I know , I know!!! Who the hell would bring a clutch into the woods? ME, Okay!! LOL!! It's old and added a touch of unexpected color into the look. My birkenstock sandals are lightweight and comfortable enough for a journey, and they go well with the overall "Luxe Boho" vibe I was going for.

Until next time,
Xoxoxo

P.S. I said "I thought" the panther was my spirit animal. Turns out the horse is truly the animal I identify with. The peace and calm you see on the outside, but on the inside there's no telling what story I've yet to tell.

Indian Summer

Wondering how to dress to kill when it's September and hotter than the actual summer months? Easy!! Light layers and simple jewelry are key. My kimono has always come through for me in sticky/hot weather. This piece is so light weight you don't even realize you have it on. It's my "In case of emergency" go to item when I'm feeling doughty and basic. My blue bodysuit and high waist acid wash shorts would have fallen flat together if not for my orange throw-on. My vintage  statement necklace doesn't hurt either. While you're at it; throw on some heeled sandals. Might as well get as much use out of then while you can, right!? In addition to light layers and simple jewelry, you also want your hair and makeup to be as simple as possible. You don't want to look like you're trying too hard in 100°F weather.

Not that innocent

Crop tops  right now are all the rage. They were big in the 90's and made a major come back earlier this year. My favourite are the mock turtle neck crop tops. They're what I like to call two in ones. They give an innocent appeal at first glance but also a little bit of sex appeal once you REALLY look at it, or depending on how you pair it with the rest of your outfit. As for me, I like to be a little subtle about my sex appeal. Which is why I opted for this pink mock turtle neck crop top along with my grey midi body-con skirt. The whole look is a complete double standard but it works. The top's colour plays a big part in making it appear sweet/innocent and so does the soft grey in the skirt. But once you take a good look at the cuts and shapes of the pieces of my outfit, then you'll think twice. It's subtle sex appeal. Much like Britney Spears and all of her music videos from 1999-2002.  After '02 she was letting you know she was having sex, LOL! This look would go perfect for a first date or a dinner and a movie date with your already existing boyfriend/husband.

Risky Business

Thinking about going out after a long day at the office, but won't have time to swing home and change? No worries! Wear something that can be parallel to both worlds.
Basic top: Check! Statement necklace: Check! Midi pencil skirt: Check! Comfortable Heels: Check!
While everything may seem simple enough for a day at the office, certain pieces have some edge to them.  For instance, the leather midi pencil skirt plays both sides: edgy and sofisticated. The silver feathered statement necklace I'm wearing is stylish enough for both office and play, but it still holds true to the edgy vibe. Now, some offices don't allow backless heels, which isn't fun. But what you can simply do is wear some regular flats for work and store these heels in your oversized bag. What woman doesn't carry an oversized bag these days? If the unfortunate event should happen to where you don't feel like going out after work, at least you got a few admiring stares.

Falling into Romance

Now that Fall is fast approaching, I couldn't wait to do a post about my love of Fall fashion. To me, the whole idea about this season is about romance. I know some people tend to think of Halloween and Fright Fest when they think of Fall, but I couldn't be any more different. When I see the leaves change colors and feel the air get cooler, not to mention everything being pumpkin spice themed, I can't help but to fall in love with the Autmn season. Around this time, skirts and jackets get longer, color pallets for outfits get a little darker and so does hair color for some. During Fall, I like to play with more vintage pieces due to my romantic state of mind. As I was gearing up for today's post I thought about old romance: Frank Sinatra, catching a train to meet a lover, a time when the world had an innocence to it. I had to translate my romanticized idea into an outfit and photo.

Urban night

Today's post is a nod to the last few weeks we have left of summer nights. Since I live in California, we pretty much have until about mid September before the night air gets cool. I've never really been a fan of summer days and the scorching heat and sweat, but summer nights.... that's totally different. The way the air smells and feels. The sun doesn't go down until 8:30pm. and kids are out playing for as long as they can before going back in the house. I think we can all get a little nostalgic about our childhood in the summer.

The turban knot is my spin on creating an urban vibe for the outfit. While my lace slip dress is cool enough for the 80° weather and my boyfriend blazer is light weight enough to not make me perspire, it still wouldn't have had that extra "OOMPH" without the turban. Accessories are the essential key to bringing a look together. That's my belief and I'm sticking to it!! While my outfit choice is very much "grown up" the little kid in me definitely plays with accessories and still plays dress up every chance I get.

Until next time,

Basic Chic

I cannot help but be overly eager for Fall to come. This outfit choice reflects my anticipation. To me, when it comes to the early stages of Fall, simplicity is key. A basic T-shirt dress, basic black heels and a statement pusre gets the point across. I'm a total fan of basic items and then playing them up to my personal style. When you give something basic some flare, such as the black heels and red lip, I feel like you give life to an outfit that would have been ordinary if the extra effort wasn't given. This look would go perfect for any occasion; office day, brunch/lunch, or even for date night. That's the thing about basic pieces; they transition well.

Until next time,

Old to New

Today's post I wanted to talk about mixing old pieces from your closet with newer pieces. As I was getting dressed this morning, I had the thought every woman has, "I have nothing to wear"! But with a closet and two dressing drawers full of clothes, I must have SOMETHING! As I rummaged through my closet I found an old blazer that I haven't  worn in YEARS (4-5 years to be exact), along with an old top which I also haven't worn in years. I thought ," WOW! I forgot all about this"! I think most people could relate. Since I was in a hurry for work I had to pair those items with something fast. I grabbed my shorts, you know... because it's August and all, pulled out a pair of booties I retired a while back, but couldn't resist pairing them with this outfit to match the gold accents from the jacket to the booties. Then I realized, old clothes don't have to be forgotten about just because we add clothes into our wardrobe as seasons change. We just have to get creative with our styling.

And P.S
When you retire something for a while, people forget they've seen you in it, which makes it appear new all over again.

Until next time,

A touch of style

Who says work out clothes can't be stylish? Me personally, I cannot function in ugly, doughty clothes when working out or doing everyday activities. In some way I HAVE to incorporate "a touch of style". Whether it be a statement jacket or a nice handbag, any casual outfit can be brought together with simply those two pieces. Lately I've been on a running kick and I've been shopping for work out clothes and I've been having fun mixing pieces together to not only function in but to look and feel good in. My running leggings are light weight and sweat resistant and my tank top is not only light weight as well, it's low cut on the sides so I can have some breathing room when my runs get intense. Of course I'm not going to run in my Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 bag and my leather gold studded jacket. I've actually worn this look to the gym, but stored away my extras into a locker. But this look totally works for running errands after the gym. Not only will you feel ready for a good calorie burning session, but you'll feel presentable for any surprise run ins. LOL

Until next time

Totally 90's

Today I was feeling a little nostalgic. That always happens to me on gloomy days. I think back to simpler times. Days when I was younger and the world seemed so big. In the 90's (90210 days) I desperately wanted to dress like Brenda and Kelly, but my Mom would not have it. I was 5 for goodness sake. But now I'm grown and can do whatever, LOL! I paired high waisted black faded jeans with a flannel, crop top and clunky black booties along with my back pack purse. Totally 90's, right!? You should know that on days when you catch me dressed like this, I'm in a nostalgic mood and living out my 5 year old fantasy.
Happy Sunday everyone!
