Urban night

Today's post is a nod to the last few weeks we have left of summer nights. Since I live in California, we pretty much have until about mid September before the night air gets cool. I've never really been a fan of summer days and the scorching heat and sweat, but summer nights.... that's totally different. The way the air smells and feels. The sun doesn't go down until 8:30pm. and kids are out playing for as long as they can before going back in the house. I think we can all get a little nostalgic about our childhood in the summer.

The turban knot is my spin on creating an urban vibe for the outfit. While my lace slip dress is cool enough for the 80° weather and my boyfriend blazer is light weight enough to not make me perspire, it still wouldn't have had that extra "OOMPH" without the turban. Accessories are the essential key to bringing a look together. That's my belief and I'm sticking to it!! While my outfit choice is very much "grown up" the little kid in me definitely plays with accessories and still plays dress up every chance I get.

Until next time,

Basic Chic

I cannot help but be overly eager for Fall to come. This outfit choice reflects my anticipation. To me, when it comes to the early stages of Fall, simplicity is key. A basic T-shirt dress, basic black heels and a statement pusre gets the point across. I'm a total fan of basic items and then playing them up to my personal style. When you give something basic some flare, such as the black heels and red lip, I feel like you give life to an outfit that would have been ordinary if the extra effort wasn't given. This look would go perfect for any occasion; office day, brunch/lunch, or even for date night. That's the thing about basic pieces; they transition well.

Old to New

Today's post I wanted to talk about mixing old pieces from your closet with newer pieces. As I was getting dressed this morning, I had the thought every woman has, "I have nothing to wear"! But with a closet and two dressing drawers full of clothes, I must have SOMETHING! As I rummaged through my closet I found an old blazer that I haven't  worn in YEARS (4-5 years to be exact), along with an old top which I also haven't worn in years. I thought ," WOW! I forgot all about this"! I think most people could relate. Since I was in a hurry for work I had to pair those items with something fast. I grabbed my shorts, you know... because it's August and all, pulled out a pair of booties I retired a while back, but couldn't resist pairing them with this outfit to match the gold accents from the jacket to the booties. Then I realized, old clothes don't have to be forgotten about just because we add clothes into our wardrobe as seasons change. We just have to get creative with our styling.

And P.S
When you retire something for a while, people forget they've seen you in it, which makes it appear new all over again.

Until next time,
